Hi, I’m Beth

Wanted to take some time to tell you a little bit about me to help you decide whether or not we might be a good fit to work together. When you start seeing a therapist, you are entering into a relationship with that person, and it’s important that you find someone who is the right match for you.

why do I do this work?

For starters, because I get it. I’ve been through a lot of the same issues that women I work with are experiencing, and I know how much it sucks. But I also know that it’s possible to get to the other side and start feeling better about yourself again, and I love helping women do that. I’ve been in therapy myself, and I truly believe in the benefits of this work- both personally and professionally. When we start learning how to let go of the shame, old trauma, and negative beliefs that are getting in our way, the potential we start to open up for ourselves feels limitless. I really love getting to watch that happen for my clients.

So what is therapy with me really like?

Sitting in a stuffy office spilling your guts to someone who just stares at you and nods might sound great to some, but it’s not the kind of therapy that ever felt helpful for me, and it’s not how I do things. I take an active approach in my work with clients, providing a safe place for you to share your story while also offering tools, feedback, and discussion to help you better understand yourself and your experiences. My style is casual & open, and there’s nothing I appreciate more than finding things to laugh about (even through the hard stuff). I work hard to connect with my clients in a way that is real & authentic, but also safe & supportive. I take a person-centered approach to therapy, which means I believe that you are the expert on you. I am not there to “fix” you (you aren’t broken, by the way), but rather to help you see yourself more clearly, and to support you on your journey toward being able to fully enjoy your life. Check out my instagam to get more of a feel for my style & personality.

Background and Training

I am a licensed clinical social worker (LISW-CP #10840) in South Carolina. I have worked as a therapist for over 8 years with various populations, and during that time I found that I have a special love for working with young adult women dealing with issues of self-worth, anxiety and eating disorders. I received my BS in Psychology from College of Charleston in 2012, and my Masters in Social Work from University of South Carolina in 2014. I have training in the following evidence-based therapeutic modalities:

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Motivational Interviewing (MI)

  • Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)

  • Trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)

I am also a registered yoga teacher (RYT-200), and my background in yoga strongly informs my approach in the therapy room. I will at times incorporate breathwork, mindfulness practices, or even gentle movement into my work with clients, as we know that there can be huge benefits to incorporating the body into our healing. As always, it 100% up to you how much of these tools you would like to incorporate into our work together.
